PRAXIS II Music Analysis Exam
This exam is designed to assess your ability to analyze music. You will be given one hour to complete three short answer questions. There will be one question regarding the analysis of musical scores, and two questions regarding performance errors. For the performance error questions you will be asked to identify incorrect articulation, incorrect vocal or instrumental accents, and the incorrect interpretation of tempo with dynamic markings. The errors heard on these recordings will be easy to identify. There will be a coral ensemble and instrumental chamber ensemble, recording for the performance error questions. For the musical score on analysis question, you will be required to choose and answer one of the following: (1.) Identify stylistic influences in the excerpts, (2.) Describe and identify performance challenges or music concepts represented by the excerpts, (3.) choose a suitable ensemble type or grade level for each musical score you hear, or describe a rehearsal techniques to help students improve their performances or, explain how the excerpts could be utilized in the teaching of musical concepts. You can answer questions for this section of the test was short phrases and descriptions, an essay type response is not required. This is section of the exam is 50% of your grade.
