PRAXIS II PRAXIS II English Language, Literature and Composition Pedagogy Exam

This exam is designed for individuals who would like to teach English at the secondary level. You will be given one-hour to answer two essay questions. This test will assess your ability to teach literature and analyze student writing. The first question will permit you to choose a literary work commonly used at the secondary level as a basis for responding to a three-part question. First, you will be asked to identify the central themes of the literary work you have chosen. Second, you will be asked to identify two student obstacles of understanding your chosen literary work. Third, you will be asked to describe two instructional activities that would aid students in understanding the features of your chosen literary work. You should be sure to include specific examples for this literary work in your discussion. When you are responding to the question about teaching literature, your understanding of various skills students need to have in the English classroom should be demonstrated. The second question will ask you to analyze an example of student writing. You will be asked to identify the strengths, weaknesses and errors in the student writing example. Your ability to analyze student writing and plan instructional activities will be analyzed by your response to this question. It is suggested that he spent 30 minutes on each question since each question represents one half of the total score for this exam.
