Outlook for Education Jobs
The statistics for school-related jobs look bright. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, people who are seeking education-related careers are going to grow at an average rate for the next several years. This means that the number of jobs will increase slightly, but not more than 13 percent. More teachers are retiring, quitting or entering a similar field, which leaves jobs open for new candidates. Could this be you? If you possess a desire to teach and the appropriate credentials, there should be no reason why you cannot get a great job in the education industry.
Teaching Job Duties
Education jobs require a lot from employees. Many teachers work overtime designing and organizing curriculum, grading papers, and helping students with questions. Can you handle the pressure of being a teacher? If you accept the fact that you may not become a billionaire as a teacher, you will be a lot happier than someone who works 80 hours a week but has no time to spend with his or her family.
Administrators are also considered to be teachers, but with a managerial aspect. Most administrators in schools today are former classroom teachers. With more education and/or experience, anyone can move into administrative education jobs. Librarians, assistant principals and guidance counselors are just a few examples of administrative school positions.
Teacher Employment Specialties
Most teachers in America work in public schools. There are many more public schools than private schools. Some school districts allow teachers to teach a couple of different subjects at once. For example, a math teacher might also teach science and coach football. Education jobs depend on the school's budget and the teacher's credentials. Some teachers have classrooms that contain several grades mixed together.
Promotions for Teaching Jobs
Promotions vary within school districts. Some of them try to give teachers a promotion every year or two. Other schools base their promotions on advanced education or performance. A teacher that consistently has students that rank high on standardized tests may get a bonus at the year's end. Teacher's assistants can make at least $15,000 a year, while high-level administrators can make six figures. College professor education jobs can also make six figures, but it usually takes years of experience before they reach that level of prestige. Teaching jobs are not about the money - make no mistake, but it is nice to be recognized for your hard work!
