Praxis II World and United States History Exam
This exam is designed for individuals who would like to teach world and American history at the secondary level. You will be given 2 hours to complete this 130 multiple choice question exam. There will be 33 questions regarding American history from 1914 to the present, 19 questions regarding American history from 1828 to 1914, 26 questions regarding American history through 1928, 35 questions regarding Western Civilization, and 17 questions regarding non-western and ancient civilizations.
American History from 1914 to the present
This section of the exam will cover recent American history, World War II and the Cold War, and World War I, the New Deal and the Depression. The questions regarding recent American history will cover culture, Supreme Court decisions, space exploration, the expansion of technology, economics, and labor. Questions regarding Watergate, domestic policy, the Reform Movement, Vietnam, civil rights and, women’s rights will be included in this section of the exam. The questions regarding the Cold War and World War II will cover Supreme Court decisions, the Civil Rights movement, domestic and space policies, the Korean War and, McCarthyism. Your knowledge of the Marshall Plan, Truman doctrine, the Cold War, and the cause and result of World War II will be assessed in this section of the exam. Questions regarding World War I, the New Deal and the great depression will cover Supreme Court decisions, the New Deal, immigration, big business, fundamentalism, and women’s rights. Your knowledge of the Harlem Renaissance culture, foreign policy, isolationism and the cause and results of World War I will be included in this section of the exam.
American History from 1828 to 1914
This section of the exam will cover Progressivism and the Gilded Age and; the Civil War and sectionalism. The questions regarding Progressivism and the Gilded age will cover Supreme Court decisions, imperialism, populism, foreign policy, immigration and labor movements. Your knowledge of industrialism, Indian policy, Darwinism, the social gospel, and racial segregation will be assessed in this section of the exam. Questions regarding Sectionalism and the Civil War will cover Supreme Court decisions, the Civil War and reconstruction, immigration and reform movements. Your knowledge of the Monroe doctrine, Manifest destiny, Indian policy, Jacksonian democracy, transportation, and slavery will be assessed in this
section of the exam.
American History through 1828
This section of the exam will cover the colonial and revolutionary period, the early national and constitutional period, and the Pre-Columbian period. Questions regarding the colonial and revolutionary period will cover slavery, colonial wars, imperial policy, religious freedom, merchantilism, Puritanism, exploration and the growth of democracy. The questions regarding the early national and constitutional period will cover the War of 1812, Supreme Court decisions, industrialism, nationalism, Jeffersonianism, foreign policy, the origin of American political parties and, the Articles of Confederation.
Western Civilization
This section of the exam will cover World War I, World War II, the French Revolution, the modern period, Reformation and Renaissance and, the Medieval period. Questions regarding World War I will cover communism, the great depression, the causes and impacts of World War I, totalitarianism and, fascism. The French Revolution questions will cover nationalism, Napoleon and, the causes and impacts of the French revolution. Questions regarding the modern period will cover English civil wars, absolutism and, enlightenment. The reformation and renaissance questions will cover Catholicism, the Protestant religion, the Northern Renaissance and, the Italian Renaissance. The Medieval period questions will cover nationalism, Christianity, monarchism, Islam, chivalry, feudalism, the crusades and, Charlemagne.
Non-Western and ancient Civilizations
This section of the exam will cover non-Western civilizations from A.D. 500 to the present and, ancient civilization before A.D. 500. Questions covering non-Western civilizations from A.D. 500 to the present will cover the national era, Portuguse and Spanish rulers, the pre-Columbian era and, Latin America. Questions regarding Japan, China, the Middle East, Asia, India, Africa, colonialism, nationalism, culture, religion and geography will be included in this section of the exam. The questions regarding ancient civilization before 500 A.D. will cover the Judeo-Christian culture of Rome, Caesar’s rule, the democratic culture of Greece, the Yellow River valley and Indus cultures, Egyptian cultures, and Mesopotamian culture.
