Praxis II Teaching Speech to Students with Language Impairments Exam

This exam is designed for individuals, who would like to teach students with language impairments in grades preschool through 12. You will be given two hours to complete this 120 multiple-choice question exam. There will be 18 questions regarding special education, 14 questions regarding audiology and aural rehabilitation, 14 questions regarding psycho linguistics and linguistics, 44 questions regarding diagnoses and management of speech disorders, and 25 questions regarding speech and language development.

Special Education
This section of the exam will cover student assessment, classroom management, organizations, services and programs, legal issues, communication skills, and the nature of the exceptionalities. The student assessment questions will cover the interpretation and purpose of student assessments and, various types of student assessments. Questions regarding criterion referenced, curriculum based, and formal and in formal assessments will be included in this section of the exam. Classroom management questions will cover classroom organization and student grouping, behavior modification, behavior management, and applied behavioral analysis. Questions regarding organizations will cover advocacy, resources, and cooperation of various agencies. The services and programming questions will cover cross categorical, mixed categorical and non-categorical student placements, program characteristics, continued services, the cascade model, and a history of special-education. Questions regarding legal issues will cover due process, confidentiality, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, Section 504, IDEA 04, and litigation issues. The communication skills, questions will cover communicating with team members, other professionals, students, and parents. Questions regarding the nature of exceptionalities will cover eligibility for special education, the prevalence of exceptional students, and the process of normal growth and development.

Audiology and Aural Rehabilitation
This section of the exam will cover phonetics and phonology, acoustics, hearing, perception, pitch, intensity, audiological assessment, aural rehabilitation, and electronic instruments such as Language Master and visi pitch. Questions regarding augmentative communication methods such as: sign language, gestures, bliss symbols, language boards, and microcomputers will be included in this section of the exam.

Diagnosis and Management of Speech and Language Disorders
This section of the exam will cover case load, speech and language therapy, evaluation and the impact of functioning with a speech or language issue. Questions regarding case load will cover service delivery, scheduling, and criteria for beginning and ending therapy. The therapy questions will cover speech and language therapy for special needs students, articulation, and stuttering, therapeutic methods, documentation and data collection. Questions regarding evaluation will cover measurement of voice, fluency, articulation, language, speech, and hearing abilities.

Speech and Language Development
This section of the exam will cover foundations of speech and, speech and language development. The speech foundations questions will cover dialects, subcultures, English as a second language, the deaf culture, stuttering, lisps, normal speech and hearing, vocal nodules and otitis media. The language development questions will cover communication disorders and, normal speech and language development. This section of the exam will also cover the following theories of language development: nativist, cognitive, behavioral and neurological.
