Praxis II Special Education: Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities Exam

This exam is designed for individuals who would like to teach learning disabled students in grades preschool through 12. You will be given one hour to complete this 50 multiple choice question exam. There will be 25 questions regarding curriculum and instruction, 15 questions regarding service delivery, and 10 questions regarding influences on the education of learning disabled students.

Curriculum and Instruction
Questions in this section of the exam will cover professional responsibilities, management of the learning environment, areas of instruction, instructional formats, teaching methods and, development and implementation of instruction. The questions regarding professional responsibilities will cover the impact of teacher attitude on student achievement and behavior, responsibilities in cases of suspected abuse and neglect, and working with volunteers, families and classroom staff. The questions regarding management of the learning environment will cover grouping students, transitions between activities, effective documentation, classroom organization, behavioral interventions, data collection, behavioral management and, behavior analysis. Area of instruction questions will cover vocational skills, academics, organizational skills, study skills, leisure skills, daily living skills, and self care skills. Questions regarding instructional format will cover reinforcement for individuals, small groups, large groups, demonstration, feedback, drill and practice, motivation and, modeling. The questions regarding teaching methods will cover behavioral analysis, task analysis, cooperative learning, direct instruction and, diagnostic prescriptive methodologies. Development and implementation of instruction questions will cover linguistic, gender and cultural differences, the usage of adaptive technology, peer tutoring, alternative grading and assessment methods, methods of motivation, instructional activities, materials, and collection of data.

Delivery of Services
This section of the exam will cover programming and student placements, student assessment methods and, conceptual approaches. The questions regarding student placements will cover support services, family involvement, least restrictive environment, mainstreaming, adaptive technology, consultative collaborative models, the multidisciplinary team, and transition planning. Assessment questions will cover IEP/ITP development, communication with parents and staff, standardized and specialized assessments, and modification of assessments when required. The conceptual approaches questions will cover cognitive, medical, psychodynamic and sociological approaches.

Influences on the Education of Learning Disabled Students
This section of the exam will cover terminology in reference to learning disabilities, and basic concepts of learning disabled students. The terminology questions will cover professional organizations such as CEC and the National Committee on Learning Disabilities, IDEA etc. The questions regarding basic concepts will cover prevention and causes of learning disabilities such as environmental, genetic, neurological and cultural. Questions covering characteristics of learning disabled students will cover receptive and expressive language, memory, attention, organizational skills, listening skills, comprehension, academic skills, and social and emotional development.
